What this IP lookup shows
Enter an IPv4 or IPv6 address — or leave the box empty to check your own public IP — and the tool returns what the ipapi.co geolocation database holds for it: city, region, country, postal code, approximate coordinates, time zone, and the organisation and ASN (autonomous system number) that the address belongs to.
When to use it
- Find out which provider or hosting company an IP belongs to — for example an address from your server logs or an email header.
- Check your own public IP and which ISP network you're on, before setting up port forwarding or allow-listing your address.
- Confirm a VPN is working: with it switched on, the IP and country shown here should change.
- Find where a website is hosted: look up its A record with the DNS Lookup, then paste that IP here.
How accurate is the location?
- IP location is an estimate, not a street address. The country is usually right; the city is often the ISP's nearest hub, and mobile or VPN addresses can show somewhere far from the real user.
- ISP / Org and ASN identify the network that owns the address block — often more useful than the location itself.
- This tool looks up IP addresses only. To go from a domain to its IP, use the DNS Lookup; to go from an IP back to a hostname, use Reverse DNS.
